Although independent from Oldfield Park Infants School, we work closely with the Head Teacher and reception class teachers to support a smooth transition for children joining the school. We regularly use parts of the school, such as the large playground, the hall for weekly ballet lessons, and the woodland area for Forest School sessions, helping children become familiar with the setting and easing their move into school life. During transition periods, we accompany pre-school children on school visits, and arrange extra visits for those who need additional support. Over the past seven years within Oldfield Park Infants, we’ve seen the benefits of children progressing while maintaining a connection with the pre-school. Through ongoing discussions with the Head Teacher and reception teachers, we look for ways to prepare children for the next stage, encouraging independence with tasks like storing coats and bags, using the toilet unaided, joining group activities, developing listening skills, and being part of a larger community.
