September 2019 - Wow what a great start to the year!!

Over the summer holidays Oldfield Park Pre-school moved into a classroom in Oldfield Park Infants school in Dorset Close.

Whilst it was sad to leave our old setting, we are very excited to be in our own room and not setting up and moving equipment everyday!!

The children who have returned with us have settled quickly alongside those who are new to us. It feels like we have been here a long time. We are able to offer the children lots of different activities and experiences and free flow into our outdoor space with a large sand tray, bikes, and trucks, water play and lots more.

We look forward to sharing our journey in our new setting with you.

Term 4 - We have been busy

This term, we have celebrated World Book day with a trip to Oldfield Park Bookshop to spend our World book day tokens, and on the World Book day it’s self the children and staff wore their Pyjama’s!! We also watched the Gruffalo’s child and followed some Bear hunt yoga.

We have continued to enjoy cooking activities, baking cheese and chive muffins, apple crumble and oaty biscuits.

The children continue to enjoy exploring our activities and extending and exploring. We have explored our senses with cutting herbs using scissors, and squeezing lemons, oranges, limes and grapefruits.

In Outdoor Adventures we have looked for signs of spring, used our sense of touch to explore different textures that we find outside. We also took part in the Big Garden Bird Watch.

Coming up in the next few weeks we have our Easter Crown making and parade, and an egg hunt in the garden.

Term 3 2019 update

It’s been a busy year at Pre- school so far. Starting with an OFSTED inspection in September, continuing with a ‘Good’ grading. We have continued with Jon and his Outdoor Adventures - spending time in the garden looking for wildlife, birds and how the seasons change.

Inside we have spent time cooking, bread, cheese scones, biscuits are a few of the things that we have cooked. We have explored lots of messy and sensory play - ice, playdough, oats, rice, cereals with diggers, along with painting, building with blocks, role-play with a bakery, picnic and home corner.

In December we had a our Nativity play - using the Church as our ‘stage’ followed by tea, coffee and mince pies for parents.

We ended the year with a party - music, games and a few magic tricks.

Term 4 - Parent Workshop, bird watching and World book day

We had a very busy term, with a parent workshop on loose parts, visiting Oldfield Park Bookshop to spend our World book day tokens. The children also dressed up as a favourite character.

In Outdoor Adventures with Jon the children made clay hedgehogs, explored the snow and froze flowers in water overnight.

We also had some great fund raising with a sponsored walk, we used the money to buy a new big mat.

Term 3 - Bird Watching

The focus in Outdoor adventures this term ahs been about the RSPB Gig Garden Birch watch - the children made bird feeders from pine cones, made binoculars from cardboard tubes and in the last week completed a survey.

The children made a nest for a 'owlet' and found 'worms to feed the 'owlet'.

Jon from Outdoor Adventures - took photo's of the birds that were fond in the garden and shared them with the children on the projector.

We also introduced our 'crafty' afternoon. Where we have a more focused adult directed groups to make something or practice skills such as hand eye co-ordination and listening skills.

Term 2 - Christmas celebrtions

We have a lovely time in the run up to Christmas - with lots of glitter, singing of Christmas songs which we used in our nativity play and finished the term with a Party.

The children continued to enjoy Outdoor adventures on some very wet and windy days.

We also explored spiders - we even has some hiding in jelly for Halloween.... the children had a role play cinema so we took that idea and gave them a 'real' cinema experience in Pre-school with popcorn in tubs, tickets and drinks all whilst watching 'The very hungry caterpillar' on the big screen.

We had stay and play sessions and a parent/child workshop on Junk modelling.

A busy start to the new Pre-school year

We have welcomed lots of new children to pre-school in September and we have spent time getting to know them and their interests.

Following their interests has we have made hedgehog bread rolls, lots of messy play with cloud dough, made play dough spiders, looked after our dolls with washing and bathing them, made dens and in the next week we are going to turn our home corner into a Bakery. We have written and posted letters in out post office and wrapped parcels, spent lots of time in the garden using our mud kitchen, bikes and scuttle bugs.

Indian drumming a s'mores!!

Oshi's mum Surrinda came into Pre-school with her Indian drums this week, we had great fun singing nursery rhymes to the sound of the Indian drum. We also danced to some Indian Bollywood music!!

In Outdoor Adventures the children made s'mores with Jon, toasting marshmallows over the fire pit and squashing them between two chocolate biscuits -they were yummy!

Paddling pools and a vet visit

The children have had a very busy week with spending time cooling off in the paddling pool on Tuesday and Wednesday and a visit from Jo a vet at Bath Vet group. Jo brought with her Parker the surgery cat ( a toy) and showed the children how she would give a cat a health check and bandage his paw as he had hurt it. The children also looked at a model of a tick, flea and worm. Jo also brought wither her a surgical gown and hat along with a poster and activity pack for the children to take home.

Jon in Outdoor adventure's was looking at floating and sinking along with keeping cool in the shade!!
